Spain is close by and affordable
The vast number of late hotel deals, low-cost flights and cheap apartments on offer make Spain an affordable short-break destination, within the budgets of the majority of people.
Indeed, because it is only about two hours away from most British airports, thousands of people pop out for short week-end breaks in the sun.
It is not only mainland Spain that is popular!
The Balearic Islands of the Mediterranean, especially the main islands of Majorca/Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza have been firm favourites with the British for decades. The love-affair with the Balearics started for many in the 1950s and has grown and grown ever since.
A little later, in the 1960s, the wonderful Canary Islands, located out in the Atlantic, off the coast of Morocco, also began to grow in popularity. Now the islands of Tenerife, Gran-Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with their warm year-round sunshine, provide a wonderful escape from the rigours of winter for many British couples, fed up with bad northern weather.
In the height of summer, the gentle Atlantic breezes around the Canaries provide a welcome cooling effect for those who don't like it too hot!! The Canary Islands really do enjoy one of the best year-round climates in the world! They are indeed blessed!!
For those searching for a more historically authentic Spain, that can be found in abundance as well.
The wonderful architecture and ancient buildings of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Granada, Palma, Cadiz etc. are a source of great pride to the Spanish people.
Fantastically ornate Cathedrals and Churches abound all over Spain, a world away from the more modern costas.
Little picturesque mountain villages, hidden up some narrow road, often seem to be relics from a bygone age.
All over Spain, colourful fiestas are a regular occurrence in this very religious country. The pageantry and exuberance of these fiestas is a sight to behold!
There is so much to explore and enjoy in this fascinating country of contrasts! Viva Espana!
