Welcome to Visit-the-World's Lanzarote section ...

Visit Lanzarote

Visit Lanzarote

The first thing that strikes you, especially if its your first-time as a traveller to the island of Lanzarote (which is in the Canaries), is the absence of any high-rise buildings!

It is no accident! It is as a result of the enlightened policy put forward by the late Canarian architect, Cesar Manrique, whose former home can be visited. His idea of restricting all development to low-rise has been adopted and made law by the Government of Lanzarote. Therefore, most tourist accommodation on Lanzarote comprises of pleasantly designed two-floor self-catering chalets.

The overall impression is of neat and tidy buildings, with some interesting variations on"typical" and "traditional" themes. They are painted white, with either blue or green painted window frames, as set out by Manrique. The whole effect is pleasing on the eye.

The liveliest resort is Puerto del Carmen, which has an "old town" and a
fine curved sandy beach backed by a very long promenade stretching for about three miles, with an amazing choice of good restaurants.

The smart resort of Costa Teguise, north of the capital, Arrecife, is also
expanding very rapidly and offers a Casino, as well as everything else to suit visitors. This resort has more hotels than Puerto del Carmen.
Timanfaya, or Fire Mountain, whose lava slopes and craters can be
descended by camel, provides a very interesting and unusual excursion.

A nice day out is to catch the Fred Olsen ferry from Playa Blanca, a
smart, quieter resort in the south of the island, for the short crossing to
Corralejo, on the northern tip of the less-developed Fuerteventura, the
Canarian island just to the south of Lanzarote.

Travel and tourism are one of the main recreation activities of the modern world, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. Travelers in previous times went on pilgrimage or traveled for trade and exploration. Most people would not have the opportunities of long distance travel that we have nowadays.

We can travel by foot, by car, bus, train, airplane, boat, taxi, hovercraft, motorbike, bicycle, quad-bike or whatever. We can go to pretty much anywhere we fancy. Anyone of us can use websites like this one (visit-the-world.com) to book our flights and our accommodation, even booking a car can all be done on-line in a matter of minutes.

International travel is a favourite pastime for many people. Literally millions of us fly and cruise to exotic destinations for a break and to get a new angle on the world. Some people take up to four foreign holidays a year. Whilst there are endless holidays and adventures to be enjoyed abroad there are also many wonderful sights and experiences available in the UK.

Why not take a trip of a lifetime to the destination of your choice and write an internet blog (weblog) of your travel experiences. You can also post your holiday photos on your blog and share them with friends, family and other worldwide web users. If you have a mini video camera you could make a holiday video telling the story of your travel adventures. You could put this onto a DVD and also post it online.

The world is full of variety and there is no end to the possible holdays or journeys that are available. There is a complete range of choice for every traveller. All that we have to do is choose where we want to go and what we want to do and enjoy our holiday!

Ticket sales are handled by Holiday Express (ABTA No. E8585) retail agents for ATOL holders.
